There is little awareness around malnutrition in the underserved communities of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Symptoms are often believed to be a sign of evil. Since 2020, FHI 360 has provided technical assistance in Kampala to train community health workers and nutritionists.
By partnering with Honduran non-profit Cadena de Amor, Dr. Spomer helps orchestrate dental clinics, sometimes seeing up to 60 schoolchildren a day for fillings, cleanings and extractions. His goal is to intervene early and reinforce good dental hygiene practices to save permanent teeth.
